Captured just as the band was "turning the corner" and fuuuuuukk what it must have been like to see them transition. I was twelve years old....it simply wasn't an option.

One third on-air radio interview, two thirds songs:
Q: Any new material...? Are they thrashers?
A: No. We're just writing good songs now - they're all pretty and melodic.
Q: Well, you've all gotten better as musicians too...
A: Wanna bet?

A pre-Candy Apple Grey recording featuring a healthy selection of tracks from Flip Your Wig and New Day Rising, this is probably from 30 January 1985 though the set list differs slightly from listings online and a few scattered videos. Not an impossible to find artifact, and well past their well documented hardcore fury, but this recording is still shit hot fire....and dropping a four plus minute version of the Elvis standard "(You're So Square) Baby I Don't Care" near the end of the set when you know the punks wanted "Something I Learned Today" is a straight baller move.

venue: Uptown Bar
location: Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
date: 20 June 1993
date: 39 minutes
Recorded on the tour that followed the tour that gave us the last live recording from The Twin Cities shared on The Escape, though this time the crowd sounds both less enthused and more belligerent (also, there's a fight). Speedboat Gallery in St. Paul on the 1992 tour can be found HERE.

It seems that someone from INSTED recorded their demo over this live tape (I thank them for what I got while I curse them for what they dubbed over, though their demo is pretty damn good, so it's cool). I'm guessing this is the Goofy's set from 1983, but the last few tracks are clearly from a different session. Saxophone on "What's Going On?" is worth the price of admission on its own.
